Module 5 – Job Seeking Skills
Your Action Plan
This module gives you some of the tools you may need to help you sell yourself to employers. Some of the methods can test your confidence, but usually they are the best ways because they show that you are motivated confident and have initiative.
Where do jobs come from?
Only about 30% of all jobs are advertised, so it’s best to go out and look yourself. Set aside time to canvas an area. List all the businesses within that area, arm yourself with CV’s and cold call to hand them out.
Other job search methods:
Job ads check,
- On line sites – Seek, TradeMe, NZ Herald, Indeed etc
- Specific Vacancy Sites – Sites of companies and agencies
- Public notice boards
- Community papers
- Word of mouth (family, friends, past colleagues etc)
